The internet is a dangerous place

I put Hannah down for a nap. Stuck a pita in the toaster oven and then started surfing the net (specifically for bedding for Hannah's future big girl bed). I got distracted, then smelled smoke. Ran into the kitchen, opened the toaster oven and the pita burst into flames. My lack of knowledge (or common sense) led me to simply close the door. Not unplug it like most people would. I just left it and starting running around the kitchen like a crazy person opening windows and turning on fans. Matt came downstairs, gave me a look (like you're a big dork) and unplugged the toaster. He's a genius. The smoke detector did not go off, which was good because Hannah was napping. But not good because there was a ridiculous amount of smoke. So I'd like to see exactly how much of my house will burn before I'm alerted.

I actually almost burned my house down once, too. Complete with fire trucks and having to get all new appliances and repaint. Whoops. It just happens sometimes! Glad yours wasn't too serious. :)
