A little background first.... our glassware is cloudy, our silverware is cloudy, our dishes look a little grimy and I can't get them to look nice. I have tried everything short of washing them by hand before putting them into the dishwasher. I have even been lectured by my husband that I just need to do a better job of cleaning the dishes before I put them in the dishwasher (which was invented to clean dishes, yes?).
Anywho, I found out from the horses mouth that the EPA banned phosphates from dish detergent about six months ago. A friend of mine confirmed that her job at Meijer was to take all the soap off the shelves back in July that had a "P" on them. Apparently phosphates are what is in detergent that does the cleaning.
So here's the scoop ladies. If you are having this issue (which all of my friends here in NE IN are (we have amazing conversations as you can tell)), run, don't walk, to your nearest grocery store and stock up on Glass Magic. It is the only detergent left with phosphates to get your dishes clean.
You're welcome.

Interesting! We've actually been having issues lately, too! But aren't phosphates considered bad for you and that's why they were taken off the market? I haven't researched it much, just something I read. Let me know if you hear anything more!!
interesting...i dont have that problem and my dishwasher is not impressive. we do use the cheap detergent so maybe that is the trick too!
Bad news, my mom said they stopped selling Glass Magic in her local stores (Chicagoland). She been a longtime devotee. They might be taking that away, too...buy it up now!
