This post is being written by A, which means it's going to be a lot less wordy then the previous. M tends to be verbose.
Wednesday finally comes and M comes to pick me up at work at 3:30. My company was so great with this crazy time, letting me off early that day and then giving me the following 2-3 months off maternity leave.
We got to the hospital, did our last round of things, making sure Hope was fine in a carseat, getting the carseat installed in our car (by a nurse, so I still have no clue how to do it), changing her into her going home outfit. Finally we were out the door by 5:15pm. We belong to a small group that meets on Wendesday nights so we knew when we got home they were going to come visit. They were also amazing enough to bring baby stuff! We needed a place for H to sleep, clothing, diapers, wipes, bottles. They supplied all of that. M and I felt so humbled by their love and excitement.
I mentioned in a previous post that our coming home was pretty crazy. We walked in the door to a house full of baby stuff, H was crying because she was hungry, and I notice there is blood all over my kitchen floor and my new rug in the living room. My in laws were great enough to get my dogs groomed earlier that day (pictured left), which included clipping their nails. Reggie got his nails cut way too short and he was bleeding from 4 claws all over my house. It looked like a crime scene. Every time we got the bleeding stopped, he would lick himself and get it started all over again. During this time, our doorbell rang and a little girl wanted me to buy girl scout cookies. I may have been a little short with her. And then I found out that the girl scouts support Planned Parenthood so I'm glad I said no!
We got Hope fed, tons of people stopped by, including our attorney to sign some papers.
The NICU had put H on a great 3 hour feeding schedule so our first night shouldn't have been bad, except since she lacked proper clothing and blankets, and H was too active to be swaddled in just a blanket, poor girl was cold all night. We washed and used her sleep sack the next night, which is now crucial to her sleeping well.
First night as parents...!
