I really like Hannah's pediatrician. I met him today for the first time (we saw the NP at her 1 week visit). He asked about her sleeping/eating/napping schedule. I told him that since I work best on scheduling, I put Hannah on a schedule the day she came home (with help from the NICU and Baby Wise). He informed me that we would get along well. I asked how I could get her to sleep a little longer in the morning. He just looked at me and said "let her cry." I asked for how long? He said, "as long as you can take." I then said, "umm, I let her cry for like 4 hours last night, is that too long?" He actually said no! That is obviously a blanket statement about her crying. I know what Hannah's cries mean. I would NOT have let her cry that long if I knew she was hungry or in pain. I'll let her hungry cry go only about 20 minutes, and I've only done that a couple times.
This is the most interesting part. He said no more pacifier or bottle at 4 months. No sippy cups either. Just grown up (plastic) cups. At four months!!! I didn't ask any questions because he said we'd address it next visit. Whoa. I will do my best at this but I'm not promising anything. Hannah is a pacifier addict so I was actually thinking about weaning her off of it during her awake times and using it only for naptimes and bedtimes. I know there are many, many opinions about this and really, I can do whatever I want. I had just never heard of this. Hmmm.
I really do like this guy and he seems very no nonsense, which is something I respect in anyone.
Hannah now weighs in at a hefty 8lbs 14 oz and is 21 and 1/4" long. This puts her in the 10th percentile for height and weight. This is not adjusted for her being early since no one is really sure how early is was. Her head, on the other hand, is huge. It's 15" which puts her in the 30th percentile. "It's like an orange on a toothpick...."
This is Hannah's little band aid from her shots.

i second the doc on getting rid of the pacifier! only because i am dreading the day my orally fascinated child has to ban the pacifier from her naps and night time. oh it will be miserable. my problem (and u might face this too) is that makenna is starting to thumb suck which i refuse to go down that road. whatever it is i am in for a long road. that is really interesting about no bottle or sippy cup. so they cup it at 4 months?? wow that is impressive. i have never heard that and i am looking forward to seeing if it works out!
Oh my... I was a sucker for the pacifier. We decided to pay the consequences in the long term for the peace (&joy) it brought in the short term! :) To each his own, right?? :) But we did have several discussions regarding this... our ped also said drop the pacifier while they are newborns -- I love our ped, but I just couldn't do it. So I still leave all paci's in the car before I got into her office.. how terrible!!! :) Have fun!
