It's been a month since I've blogged. Moving on.
Last night we took the girls to Anthis Career Center where high school kids learn job skills so they can get good jobs right out of high school.
They have a cosmetology school so we thought we would give it a shot to get the girls' hair braided and beaded.
We arrived at 3:30pm and left at 6:30pm. And the girls sat quietly the entire time. Olivia did cry a couple times but she was able to calm down pretty quickly. I have a hard time sitting still for three hours, I am amazed the girls did so well.
And boy do they love their beads. They do a lot more jumping and head swinging just so they can hear their beads clacking against each other. They also seemed to have a touch more attitude today but I'm not sure it's the beads, or the headache they both have from having their hair pulled so tight last night. I had to give them both some tylenol for their headaches last night, and they are getting used to sleeping on tender heads and beads, but according to them, it's worth it.
And non biased opinion, I think they look pretty awesome. We rewarded them (and ourselves) to a trip to Five Guys burgers after the hair night. We all needed giant burgers, fantastic fries and unlimited soda. Their diet coke options are magical.
On to babies. We painted the baby's room almost a year ago. It's palladian blue by Benjamin Moore and it's my favorite color in my whole house. It's also in my kitchen and since I had a gallon left over I figured this would be a great color for a baby's room. And since we were on the adoption list for a BOY ONLY, I already had decorating ideas for a little boy's room. Ha.
As a side note, while I am very aware this pregnancy could end in tragedy, there is still a pretty good chance, given my non eventful pregnancy thus far, that I will probably bring this baby home. Which, in an of itself, is a weird thought. I have never been "guaranteed" a baby.
Now, after the shocking 20 week u/s reveal that we were having girl #3, I needed to transition my mind from boy decorations in a blue/green/gray room into girl decorations in a blue/green/gray room.
I found my answer in my all time favorite color.....coral. I have loved this color for years. My purse is coral, my favorite ballet flats are coral, I have a million coral tshirts and sweaters (ok, maybe four) I remember my first coral shirt I bought from the Shedd Aquarium in 7th grade, seriously.
Another aside, I plan on decorating this room for under $100.
This mirror was gold and in my grandma's house. I bought a paint sample and painted it, along with several other things, and plan to hang it in little girl's room. It's gorgeous in real life. I want to paint my whole house coral. And it looks fantastic with the blue/green/gray. The curtains will be white, I've already bought the fabric, I just need to sew a couple seams.
I bought nine photography prints from Etsy that have blue/green and light lavendar that I am going to frame to put over the changing table.
And nana is going to bring it all together by knitting a white, coral, blue and lavendar blanket.
My total cost so far has been:
Photographs from Etsy: $40
Mirror: free
Paint: $2
Fabric for curtains: $30
White frames from Ikea: TBD, hopefully about $25.
I really do enjoy decorating a room BEFORE the baby arrives, not try to put something together as I am adjusting to a new baby.
I also bought a nursing cover, a carseat cover (it was actually free, I don't really need one). I have the diapers washed and put away and.....I even have all the newborn and 0-3 months stuff washed and hung up/folded. It's weird to have stuff prepared already.
Another funny story. The past September I sold our high chair to a girl through Craig's List. Her and her husband are young with a new baby and they seemed so sweet. I got her number and ended up giving her a ton of my baby girl clothes, up to 12 months. You know, because we were on the adoption list for a BOY ONLY. I was fairly confident we were done with girls.
She texted me the other day asking if I had any 12-24 months I was ready to get rid of. I texted her back, "Funny story....." and told her about our surprise pregnancy with another girl. She offered to give me the clothes back, but I told her to keep them. I had kept all the sentimental things and really, how much do babies need those first few months?
New baby girl will not go naked, but I think it's funny I remember giving her a giant bag of clothes about a week before I found out I was pregnant.
So that's that. See you next month.

Congratulations on your healthy pregnancy! That's great news :). I can totally relate to feeling odd about having TIME to prepare for a baby... after several last-minute foster placements and just one day's notice before we got our adopted son, I'm used to patching in the holes as we went along. Enjoy the planning; it sounds fun and even a little relaxing ;)
